Teaching
INSTITUTIONAL
I am currently an adjunct professor at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA. I teach class guitar, jazz appreciation, and American popular music appreciation. I have also taught applied music for SUNY Purchase and Burlington College.
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
Now available! Zoom online lessons!
Have lessons in the comfort of your own home. Lessons can be recorded (video) by request and available for you reference later. There are many advantages to the online format!
I have taught hundreds of students privately in California and New York since 1996. My teaching philosophy is to tailor instruction for each student based on their learning styles and goals. For all students I emphasize the importance of music literacy, technique, and fundamental skills (ear training, rhythm, harmony, and melody). All of these things can be developed through a student's preferred style and repertoire (it is always the same twelve notes).
Lessons are available for electric and acoustic (double) bass, acoustic and electric guitar, jazz improvisation, and music theory (harmony, ear training, etc.) I am also available to teach/coach ensembles and group lessons when time permits. I teach all ages and levels.
